Adam Hall and co-counsel obtain declaration that Leawood’s ban on “pit bull” dogs is unconstitutional

Adam Hall of Thompson-Hall, P.A., and Katie Barnett of Barnett Law Office, LLC, obtained a dismissal of a criminal charge against their client that alleged the keeping of a “dangerous animal.”  After months of legal briefing, an evidentiary hearing, and oral arguments, on January 24, 2022, Judge Thomas M. Sutherland of Johnson County District Court concluded that a breed-specific Leawood ordinance banning “pit bull” dogs as “dangerous animals” was unconstitutionally vague, both on its face and as applied in the client’s case.  The ruling will ensure the client’s family dog stays within the City of Leawood, with the other members of the client’s family.
