Thompson to Present at National College on Judicial Ethics and Conduct

On October 24 and 25, Todd Thompson will be presenting at the National College on Judicial Ethics and Conduct. The College is sponsored by the National Center for State Courts, and is in Chicago this year. Todd’s presentation is on Investigating and Prosecuting Sexual Misconduct Charges against Judges.

Allegations of sexual misconduct pose special challenges for judicial conduct commissions, and Todd’s session will consider some of those issues, such as: how to investigate hostile environment claims when a courthouse is the workplace; how to try he-said/she-said cases; how to address common defenses; and the relationship between the code of judicial conduct and statutory definitions of sexual misconduct.

In addition to his private practice, Todd is the Examiner for the Kansas Commission on Judicial Conduct, and investigates and prosecutes judicial complaints arising throughout the state of Kansas. He performs a similar function as Disciplinary Counsel for the State Board of Examiners of Court Reporters.
